I have finished creating a report on an overview of the Italian Educational System which you will find on my Political and Economic's section of this webpage. I implore you to make comments on it.
Societal Roles of Italy: A Brief Overview
Family roles in Italian society were very traditional. The primary role of men was to work, earn an income, and provide for the family. The Italian Man also was the protector and leader of the family. He made most all of the important decisions for the family and was the final say in all significant family disputes. Men in early Italian society held virtually all-political positions and made up most of the military personnel. Nearly all of the Italian economy was centered on the work and decision making of Italian men. Women in early Italian society also were in a traditional role. Women stayed at home, raised the family, and supported the men who were off working and leading society. Women took a somewhat secondary role to men and did not participate in any large extent in the political system. Women did work quite hard in the home and on the farm as well as in family businesses, but it was typically in a support role to men. Ethnic groups in Italian society were primarily German, French, Slovenian, Albanian & Greek. Because these ethnic groups were typically in a minority, their roles in Italian society was centered on working hard and gaining equivalent status as men and women. Ethnic groups frequently collocated together in Italian society to support one another, and continue traditions from their perspective home country lands. Over time, societal roles in Italy changed in a manner similar to that experienced in the United States. The role of the man in the home gave way, to some extent, to a stronger role for the woman. Women made more of the important family decisions and had a much stronger say in resolving family issues. Men found themselves taking a stronger role in raising the children and performing household work. Women’s role in the economy grew as women took on more work outside of home. Women also began to rise in the political system and have a stronger say in the doings of the country. The societal role of ethnic groups also changed over time. Ethnic groups grew slowly as a percent of the population and took on stronger leadership roles in the economy. |
